27-year-old Peter has taken himself to Paris, after splitting up with his girlfriend, to find new love - and write. The last thing he’s looking for is handsome blond Fabrice, who also identifies as straight. But a love they can’t at first acknowledge blooms between them. Only an enforced separation obliges them to face the truth. But where better to discover the intricacies of love and yourself than in the world’s most romantic capital? The city of Paris, its inhabitants and its street life are all integral characters in this book. First published in 2013 as Gay Romance in Paris.

Reading the synopsis, I thought I would relive part of the Paris I discovered as well in 1987 when I arrived to study there. My disappointment emerged quickly when I read clichés after clichés and didn't find anything about the gay Paris that was appearing at that time. People wanted to experiment (homosexuality had been completely depenalized in 1982 by President Mitterrand). The story is ok and believable, but the context is not. Maybe it's meant for someone who is not French (as I am), but if a Frenchman can't really connect to it, then is it worth reading!Product details

The Paris Novel A Romance Gay Romance Anthony McDonald 9781520826813 Books Reviews
Me a total romantic loved it
While the author's command of English far exceeds that of the average M/M romance author and the attempt at giving more depth to the genre is commendable, I still do not feel this work is going anywhere.
The luscious descriptions feel contrived; they are not beautiful enough to attain real literary beauty nor do they add up to a meaningful mirror of the characters' psychologies.
Characters, despite the author's attempt at making much of them and of the situations they find themselves in, are so ordinary they have no spark in them and end by being dull.
A good story. I liked the characters, and story line. It was well written. The locations in the story Was well researched. A good story.
A very beautiful story of love being discovered when you weren't looking and finding out who you truly are and what you really want for the next twenty-five to mean in your heart
Sweet book. Great details about Paris and France. Happy ending even though mot completely believable.
I very much like Mr. McDonald's books...have read most of them. This one matched in tone to the others, of course, and I'm pleased to have found it.
Love Peter and I learned to love Fabrice and then there is Paris! I really appreciate Mr McDonald's writing it is very descriptive and personal. I really liked Peter's and Fabrice's journey of discovering who they are and how they can be together.
